Dr. Brian Naughton is a Staff Data Scientist at YouTube and previously worked on the Google Payments team. His work focuses on forecasting, causal inference, and designing and optimizing machine learning models. Alongside his industry roles, Dr. Naughton teaches Advanced Machine Learning, bridging theoretical concepts with real-world applications for master's students and working professionals.
He received his PhD and MS in Statistics from North Carolina State University, where his research centered on Bayesian regression models for high-dimensional data, and holds a BS in Mathematics from UNC Charlotte. His prior applied experience includes work at Red Hat and MIT Lincoln Lab.
He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife, Katie, and their dog, Smokey. Outside of the classroom and the office, he enjoys reading, hiking, and woodworking.
